Doctor Who- Season 8 Episode 1 – Deep Breath

Doctorwho Fandom

Sit back this is going to be a long one…

I’m still on mixed reviews on this episode. Peter Capladi I expected him to make a brilliant Doctor. I was worried about his and Clara’s relationship. Moffat constantly put to viewers that her and the 11th Doctor, a young attractive guy had a deeper connection, than just a usual companion relationship. Since New Doctor Who started we have gone through 3 young Doctor’s each attractive, so now it was time to see how much the writers were going to make the age issue blow up in everyones faces.

At times the episode was like this-

Doctor who3

First let’s start with the issue that might have me clawing my eyes out… that new opening sequence. Doctor Who has been running for 50 years… WHY ARE YOU SCREWING THE CLASSIC??? If you had to change the imagery whyyyyy did you have to change the theme song?? Also how many times do you need to change the interior of the Tardis???

When the Doctor first walks outDoctor Who door of the Tardis, I’ll admit at first I was sort of offended as it seemed like Moffat was trying to make it seem like the Doctor had some sort of mental health problem on first viewing some parts seemed seriously over written. At times I was laughing because I related to some of the stuff he was saying and doing, that whole over the place, don’t want to sleep,, no real idea what they are saying or doing, or what anyone else thinks… It’s like me in a Manic state! Hey I’ll probably understand Dinosaur too… and I have climbed out of windows.

I’m interested to see what the Doctor will be like once he’s found out who he is. We saw it with the 10th Doctor (David Tennant) when he regenerated when he woke up after having a rough regeneration he had a few issues figuring out who he was, but mostly concerned with the fact he wasn’t ginger. With the 11th Doctor (Matt Smith) he seemed to adapt into his new character and form with ease. In this episode like the 10th Doctor was the opposite of the 9th Doctors (Christopher Eccleston) regeneration (as we didn’t actually see any problems with his physical regeneration) the 12th is the opposite of the 11th. The 11th had no mental problems with his regeneration and the 12th seems loaded with them. Even between the moments 12th is figuring out who he is we are getting the picture that 12th is a darker character and compared to the 11th he is a less warm, straight to the point character. There are moments especially when he leaves Clara in danger of the robots where I questioned his emotions, in the past we wouldn’t have seen the Doctor put his companion in harms way. However, we won’t see till later if this is a permanent part of him or if it’s just the regeneration. Although one major question is, Are the Doctor’s running days over? As in this episode we saw less running and more of the Doctor tackling the danger head on.

We get to the scene where we meet this episodes main villain. Clockwork robot thing which is taking out organs, which we later find out he is using the parts to repair his army and his ship… Umm seems familiar… Doctor who4

Well no one can argue with Moffat for stealing anyone else’s idea. Considering that Series 2 episode which involved Clockwork droids, who were stealing organs to get their ship working, and Madame De Pompadour. For a episode one in the new series though I was hoping for something a bit more original than Moffat recycling his other ideas.

It does get confirmed in the episode that these two episodes are interlinked only the ship which is mentioned in this episode is the Madam De Pompadour’s sister ship, Marie Antoinette.

We have a scene where some of my favourite characters, Madame Vastra and Jenny, it finally gets said they are married! Yay! At least this episode shows off a lesbian relationship, however, there is a kissing scene between them but they weren’t kissing in a moment in love they were kissing because Madame Vastra could store oxygen and they needed to hold her breath. Sweet that Madame Vastra was practically saving Jenny’s life, not so sweet that the only scene with them kissing was because they had to.   Vastra has a bitch fight with Clara, on if she is judgemental. This is where it really gets down to business on if Clara is bothered about the Doctor being an, “older,” person. Turns out she isn’t… All this is happening while the Doctor is running on the rooftops talking to the dinosaur…

THEN THEY KILL THE FREAKING DINOSAUR!!!

We have another cDoctor Who scaredonnection to a past episode, this time series 1 of the New Doctor Who, where the pig in a spaceship flies into Big ben… This time we have a dinosaur being burned to death near Big Ben. In both cases the Doctor, in grief, says, “It/She was scared.” Putting forward this idea that he’s sad that the Human Race doesn’t know how to distinguish between a threat and fear.

Moffat’s connection to Sherlock then comes out, as the Dinosaur’s death (the Dinosaur has basically combusted) then becomes a murder mystery as the question is, “Have their been any similar murders?” Turns out there has. The Doctor disappears leaving Clara questioning him again.Doctor who hit

Since New Doctor Who Started in 2006, only Rose has seen the Doctor regenerate and continued to be his companion. Compared to her, Clara has more doubt about who the Doctor is. This idea of accepting age comes back, although I know Rose and Clara are completely different characters, but if you think about it like this. Rose saw 9th Doctor change into a physically younger looking 10th Doctor, there was that romantic attraction there and in some cases the 10th Doctors attitude was more upbeat and positive- it was mentioned the 9th Doctor was still getting over the war. Here Clara has to sort of accept the opposite, accepting her young, childish Doctor has turned into an older Doctor, who on first appearances seems unstable. There’s a hurtful (for viewers) part where the 11th Doctor phones Clara up from Trenzalore in the past (Timey wimey Wibbly wobbly stuff) mentioning the version she is with now, will be scared and need help, that plus the 12th Doctor asking Clara if she wants to go for chips, connects back to the first series. There is the possibility that The Doctor needs Clara to be Rose, as he mentioned before at the end of series 4, Rose made him better. Where as the 10th Doctor and the 11th Doctor has similarities I’m thinking the 12th Doctor and the 9th Doctor are going to have similarities, winding the series down a darker path.

Mentioning Donna.  There is a scene where the Doctor, confused with who he is, Questioning an old poor man “Have you seen this face before?… It’s funny because I’m sure that I have.” One problem I saw with Peter Capaldi being the new Doctor was that he HAS been in Doctor Who before.

Doctor+Who Face

Series 4- Fires of Pompeii which is one of the first places The 10th Doctor takes Donna. It’s a long shot but another theory could be is we have a connection to Donna here.Like Rose, Donna also had the attitude to tell the Doctor when to stop and had the plus that she wasn’t crushing on the Doctor all the time.

Also if we are connecting the Doctor back to Pompeii it could mean that the Doctor might not just have some control on what he looks like, it get’s mentioned he chose to look youthful to fit in, but who he looks like.

I mentioned before that the Doctor put Clara in a situation where she was in danger- leaving her trapped with the clockwork droids, the only thing that properly saved Clara was the fact she remembered the Doctor telling her, “How long can you hold your breath?” As these droids seem to be able to sense any human because of their breathing, although in the end Clara was still caught because let’s admit it we need oxygen to live. It still shows that the Doctor is willing to take more risks and maybe in future episodes the companion isn’t going to be safeguarded and locked up in the Tardis sent home every so often. This placing Clara, in danger also is a trust test. Although the Doctor left her, she had to see that he would always, “Have her back.” It’s different to see that instead of the Doctor insulting just the robots/villains, but he also throws an insult at Clara, “5’1 and crying.” and calling her a, “Control freak.”

There is also something I’ve actually become annoyed about. The Doctor’s change of attitude and the fact we will be getting a male companion, has Moffat put this characteristic in the Doctor to fit in with the male companion? Also this new quality might give a theory that Clara’s exit from the show might not be a clean one.

THE PHONE CALL

Doctorwho waaaa

I cried and I will keep crying for possibly the next 10 times I watch this episode. I know the Doctor is now not a, “Hugging person,” but I believe most of the Whovian fandom was giving him a hug at that point.

Questions (weirdly both of these questions the answer River has crossed my mind but then I’ve had to dismiss it)-

Who is this woman who is trying to keep them together? I always thought, “The Woman at the Shop.” was River, but if you remember Clara has met River so hopefully she would have mentioned when the Doctor asked who gave you my number that it was River.

Missy

Who is Missy?

Right I have been asked if this could be River Song, due to her calling the Doctor her, “Boyfriend.”

*Sigh*
*turns lights off*
*sets up projector*
*opens powerpoint*
allow me to tell you a thing

At the moment looking at the past story lines there is only a slim chance Missy is River Song. We met River Song as Mel, when she was a child growing up with Amy and Rory. We saw her grow up then change into the River Song we all know. She can’t regenerate, meaning River can’t change, as she gave her regeneration energy to save the Doctor. Also the small fact River is now dead and stuck in a library database, so even if she could change she’s stuck anyway. What about before Mel changed into River Song? Ok we find Melody again as a child in 1969 where she regenerates. If Missy is Melody, this would mean she regenerated, grew up, went back to the Victorian era, did whatever she is there for, then regenerated again into Mel to go back to school with Amy and Rory in I’m guessing the 1980’s/1990’s.

There is also another theory- Tumblr- that Missy could be the Master. Missy- Mistress- Master.

But from what I’ve seen with Moffat’s writing anything could happen.

– One thing about the Missy scene. This is either connected or the Doctor Who team really need to find new locations

Doctor who 2 Doctor Who 1 Garden 3

We have seen that garden in Series 6, The Girl Who Waited, Where Amy is quarantined in a place which is almost described as, “Kindness centres.” which allow people to live out the rest of their lives in the best way possible. It could be the same place- planet Apalapucia- Missy says it’s the, “Promise Land. Paradise.”

We’ve also seen it in a Sarah Jane Adventure episode where the gang go investigate a, “Haunted,” Building, only to find out it was the work of an alien magician.

Other

Coolest entrance goes to Madame Vastra and Jenny, I know the Tardis entering via a dinosaur was cool but I have more chance of being able to do aerial acrobatics… although chances are I’ll just end up killing myself and fall like Strax did.

Favourite quotes-

Doctor. “Planet of the pudding brains.”

Strax- “By bringing it (the Tardis) here, he’ll be lured from the dangers of London to this place of safety… And we will melt him with acid.”

Clara- “Okay that last part,”

Strax- “And we will not. Melt him with acid.”

Doctor- “I’m Scottish, I can complain about things.”

Doctor “I don’t know but I’d probably blame the English.”

Doctor- “I don’t think I’m a hugging person now”

Clara- “I’m not sure you get a vote.”

My new found love for TV series Grimm

Grimm_Season3_CastI started watching this last week. This only happened because most of the American shows I usually watch were on break. I needed to fill my time with something I’d enjoy but wouldn’t confuse the hell out of me. It was then I remembered that last month Cat had given me season one & two of Grimm. I started watching and now can’t understand why I haven’t been on the bandwagon since the beginning. Cat I thank you for opening my eyes to the sheer fairytale horror that is Grimm.

To begin with I thought umm it’s a bit slow but the more you watch the more questions you want answering and the more intrigued you become by these strange creatures which you’ve basically never seen before… I’m up to season 2 episode 3 and there have been no vampires, zombies, witches or ghosts… Not in the way we know them from popular culture anyways.

The storyline is pretty good and because Nick Burkhardt (who’s the Grimm) is a detective for Portland PD David-Giuntoli-as-Nick-Burkhardt-grimm-33631904-1538-2047the way he comes into contact with the wesen (the creatures) is very believable. It’s also nice to see that even though Grimm’s are old school hunters he’s actually made the effort to become friends with some… This doesn’t mean that it’s all friendly with no blood and gore.

So far up to season 2 I like Nick but I want to kick his ass so bad for these reasons. He’s basically told no one he can see these creatures since becoming the Grimm. The only people who really know are the creatures and they’re terrified he’ll just kill them. He has told someone else but I’ll let you find that out for yourself. His detective partner Hank Griffin has had a close call with a particular wesen and Nick has just left him to suffer on his own. If Nick and Hank were women everything would have been sorted and there’d be no more sleepless nights and nightmares for Hank. A major plot line that I need solving now is that just from watching you know the Captain Sean Renard is involved somehow but you don’t know how. This however (from what I watched last night) looks like it’s a big part of season 2. Yay!

Grimm_Season3_Cast

So I really do like Grimm. I was up until 4am this morning watching so that really says something. It feels like it has lots of places to go in the storyline and it’s keeping us all glued to the screen. While it does this it’s worth watching. It’s also sneakily educational because it teaches you of the fairytales and stories of the Brothers Grimm. Here’s hoping that the series keeps as strong as it is now.

The third season is still airing in the UK on Watch.

Doctor Who, Christmas episode review.

Ok, this is a bit late. This episode was aired in 2013 and we are now in 2014, truthfully I’ve been in Pantoland, since the 20th of December on stage.

DWC1

Now, this episode can be awarded some sort of trophy for truly screwing up the Doctor Who counting system.

Those who know, since 1963 to 24th of December 2013 we knew Time Lord- Doctor Who regeneration rule being there are 12 regenerations, and there will be 13 Doctors. And the Doctor and their actors are as follows
1st Doctor- William Hartnell
2nd- Patrick Troughton
3rd- Jon Pertwee
4th- Tom Baker
5th- Peter Davison
6th- Colin Baker
7th- Sylvester McCoy
8th- Paul McGann
9th- Christopher Eccleston
10th- David Tennant
11th- Matt Smith
12th Peter Capaldi.

After the 50th anniversary episode, there was the question, with no official answer at the time if John Hurt, who was introduced as, “The War Doctor,” Should actually be the 9th Doctor, meaning the current Doctor- Peter Capaldi would be the last. Although, with that episode bringing Gallifrey back, there was the option that the Time Lords would grant the Doctor more regenerations. One snag is that The Doctor doesn’t know where his home planet is, basically depending on how difficult the writers make it, finding Gallifrey could be really easy or it could be like getting a Where’s Wally book, only to make things extremely difficult someone has torn the pages up and hidden the small picture of Wally in some giant mansion sort of house with a garden with no clue to where the picture is.

Back to the Christmas episode, the line up was changed even more. Back when David Tennant was the Doctor , viewers did see regeneration energy- he was shot by a Dalek

Zim shaking headOnly after healing himself, he poured that energy into his hand that cut off, (Not going to go into that, Whovians you should know what I’m talking about, those who don’t you need to go watch the Christmas Special at the start of series 2). I don’t know anyone who actually counted that as a regeneration, but 25th December 2013 it actually got announced that it was a regeneration and the Doctor at the time had, “Vanity,” Issues.

Basically the line up now looks like

8th- Paul McGann
9th- John Hurt
10th- Christopher Eccleston
11th- David Tennant
12th- David Tennant
13th- Matt Smith
14th- Peter Capaldi

spock

Now, I’m going to try and not go into a written rant about this. The more annoying thing about this is- despite the obvious there shouldn’t be more than 13 Doctors or they should have made a bigger deal with the Time Lords giving him another regeneration rather than just some gold light coming out of the crack in the sky, the same crack we thought had been resolved in early Matt Smith days! Although it was written in the script, I’m taking that from the fact it came from the Actors mouths in the episode, which confirmed that the Doctor Who team were screwing everything up or someone along the lines for got how to count, internet sources such as the BBC and Wikipedia (ok I know that one isn’t a reliable one but come on, everyone goes to it), still count Capaldi as the 12th Doctor.

The Christmas Episode 2013, The Time of the Doctor, saw us say a tearful farewell to Matt

Smith as the 11th/13th Doctor, since the excitement of the 50th anniversary was over the number one question at the back of most Whovian’s minds- although most would not want to think of it- was, how would he be killed and would his goodbye create as much flooding as David Tennant’s Farewell as he with teary eyes, left us with the heart scarring words, “I Don’t want to Go.”

DWC7

Like the finale of 2 previous seasons (5 &6) We see for the 3rd time and I get an itching feeling Moffat mightlike writing scenes that involve all of the Doctors enemies in one place, ok it is effective considering we knew the Doctor would be killed in this episode it didn’t give any answers to how. There was a giggle worthy moment in this episode when it occurred to me, Matt Smith’s Doctor could be the first one to die naked- Spoilers 😉

In this Episode, we finally get to know how the Silence was formed and why it is known as a, “Religion.” It was created by the church and the Mother Superior Tasha Lem to stop the Doctor from speaking his name and letting the Time Lords back into that universe. Confusion was also stopped, these events happened after River Song but thankfully one question whichis answered is how the Silence got brought back in time. Apparently, a division of the Church broke off and went back in time to stop the Doctor from ever getting to Trenzalore.

Of course, the Doctor didn’t really die as much as he thought he would, counting up that he was the 13th Doctor he began to slowly die (not mentioning how) Spoilers ;). The Doctor is allowed another regeneration from the Time Lords, using his regeneration energy he is able to destroy the Daleks and defend Trenzalore. Yay! This actually isn’t as good as it seems if you remember the plot line for series 7, if you can recall that series is based around the Doctor dying on Trenzalore, it’s the reason Clara gets splintered into

DW8 Time and the Doctor goes to find her. If the Doctor doesn’t die on Trenzalore (it cannot be argued that he could still die there as Clara has no idea who the Capaldi regeneration is and she has seen every one), his grave isn’t on Trenzalore therefore, the events of that time with the Great Intelligence (End of series 7) doesn’t happen, leaving giant plot holes, and making series 7 irrelevant.

.The Goodbye Matt Smith gives is a tearful one. Where as David Tennant made us all fall in tears with words, Matt Smith gave us tears with actions,

Dalek emotional we are taken for a trip down memory lane with the placement on the set of Fish Fingers and Custard, Mini Amy Pond and the appearance of grown up Amy (First time I saw this episode I knew straight away her ginger hair was a wig, after that though the emotional turmoil makes it less relevant) calling him by her childhood name for him “Raggedy Man.”and the symbolic meaning of him taking off the, “Cool,” Bow tie was like him stripping off his identity.

“I will always remember when the Doctor was me.” The Line that sent shivers down my back.

Dalek

This episode also, brings the quickest regeneration in the history of Who, but Capaldi and his new Kidneys and his Scottish accent make a brief appearance and we have to wait for series 8 now, which is set to be a good one as the 14th Doctor announces he doesn’t know how to fly the TARDIS.

DWC6

Unanswered questions in this episode-

How did the telephone get disconnected from the console unit? (Ok I think that one could go on without being answered but really I want to know, I hate to think it just, “Happened,” For that episode for laughs.”

DW3

Where Can I get a Friendly Cyberman head? (Ok that’s probably more of an outside the episode, aimed at merchandising thing)

Will there be doing a Cooking with TARDIS cookbook? (Again merchandise)

Why do you have to go to church naked? (I want an actual reason for this. It can’t just be a, “Respect,” Reason).

In this episode, something is sort of spoiled. The Silence Monsters, we all got taught to fear- when we could DWC2see and remember them anyway, turned out to be priests…  Which begs the question is this a different branch of the Silence family? One side are priests that ask for confessions the other helps raise psychopaths? If that is true, Moffat needs to start writing some sort of Eastenders Soap with the Silence in the middle… or maybe he already has, no one can remember it.

The Mother Superior says, “You’re not taking any technology down there,” She means the TARDIS key, but nothing is asked of the Doctor Sonic Screwdriver. (I’m guessing he might still have had it on him as we don’t see him pick it up in the scenes in the TARDIS). Where is the Sonic Screwdriver? Or Why didn’t she ask for it?

Is some certain facts with what happened on the Day, The Master, The Doctor and the Power Mad Time Lords met gone from the Doctor’s memory? The Doctor said, “They will come in peace.” If you remember that episode properly do you really want to bet 100% on it?

How does a Wooden Cyberman work? Come on the thing shoots fire! (I don’t mean that as a question, I know the world of Doctor Who can defy the rules of physics)

How did Clara survive going though Time Vortex and Space without a shell? There is an argument if it will kill you or not, when Jack Harkness clung onto the TARDIS last time he died, although because he can’t really die, he came back. Clara was stuck in the Time Vortex for 300 years.

Does the Doctor get another set of regenerations (Meaning 12 more) Or is this just a one time, one generation   deal?

Happy Birthday Dick Van Dyke

As it is also Friday the 13th, possible other names for this post- as created by Vanessa, “Unlucky Dick,” and, “Unlucky Dyke.”

Dickvandyke1 Dickvandyke2

The American actor celebrates his 88th birthday today, through out his career, which is still possibly on going, he has been in tv programmes and movies that both Adults and Children will recognise, from Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to the TV series Diagnosis Murder.

Dickvandyke4Dickvandyke5

More recently, he may be known for appearing at the Saving Mr. Banks premier, a movie based on the making of Mary Poppins, where for he was reunited with the star Julie Andrews, who played Mary Poppins in the movie.

Dickvandyke3

Van Dyke, show’s his humour through out most of his roles, the fact that he can make funny moments in murder mysteries in nearly every episode of Diagnosis Murder (I got brought up on them so I should know). Over the decades he has shown his talent for singing, dancing, writing, acting, comedy and caring doing his share in charity work. Oh and of course he has shown his talent for Roller Skating.

Although, like any other person Van Dyke has had his issues, he seems to have come through them and appeared back full strength still with his optimism.

Happy Birthday Dick Van Dyke!

Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor

23rd Of November 2013 saw a landmark day for all Whovians and possibly those unfamiliar to the show but wanted to see what the hype was about.

Whovians, acknowledged that this day would be the 50th anniversary of their beloved Time Traveller (Which first aired that day in 1963) However, fans were met with the news that there would be a 50th Anniversary Special, all news and the scripts were kept secret, occasionally some news would be realised news that David Tennant would be returning to play the 10th Doctor would have some fans screaming, but as Whovians would know there could be two forms the Tenth Doctor could take, the Tenth Doctor himself or his Human-Time Lord Equivalent in the parallel universe. The Hints the BBC released would leave more questions then answers, we were told the villains that would be involved and at the end of Series 7 in the episode, “In the Name of the Doctor,” Whovians were left with the knowledge that John Hurt some how would appear as The Doctor.

So, fans are left with questions that could cover all, Who? What? Why? When? How? And this is possibly one of the best kept secrets of the BBC.

Day-of-the-Doctor

7.30PM 25th of November  2013. Get Fish Fingers and Custard Ready. (That’s just what I did, I’m not sure if other fans ate the same thing, but for the record it isn’t as bad as it sounds)

7.48PM- Screaming at the TV Hoping Strictly Come Dancing would hurry up

7.50PM Simultaneous broadcast Doctor Who was shown on the BBC, selected cinemas and 93 other countries, Breaking a Guinness World Record- Some significance to Doctor Who Series 3 episode 13 “Last of the Time Lords,” Where the whole world thinks, “Doctor,” At the exact same moment saving him?

The Episode-

DOTD Matt Smith

I’m not going to go through the whole episode minute by minute, as we could be here all day as I point out and explain all the little details which probably hold hardly any significance.

But I will admit I had chills when the credits came on screen and it wasn’t the traditional colour 12th Doctor Logo, instead we had the logo with the first 20 seconds of the first ever episode of Doctor Who in the 1960’s and the name “I. Chesterton,” Is written on the school board. Those who don’t know I.Chesterton= Ian Chesterton, one of the Doctors first companions. There are a few things what Old Who fans might have picked up on, such as the first 30 seconds we see, “I Chesterton,” but before that is the name of the scrapyard the TARDIS landed in in the first episode. The Long Scarf worn by one of the Scientists, gives a reference to the scarf worn by the 4th doctor.

DOTD 3

11th, 10th and The War Doctor

Keeping this short-

Some things I loved about this episode-

All the references to old doctor who, I screamed seeing a picture of Susan (The Doctors Granddaughter) on the Pin board of UNIT.

The drama, competition and humour between the three Doctors, such as the Sonic Screwdriver stand off.

DOTD Sonic

The awesome special effects especially those involving Gallifrey (Although I will admit, it did seem a bit Star Wars at times)

DOTD Fes1

All thirteen Doctors coming to save Gallifrey in the end including the 12th Doctor Peter Capaldi.

The fact Fez’s were involved

Tenth Doctor warning a bunny rabbit.

We see old TARDIS console- including the circle things

Tom Baker’s (4th Doctor) appearance near the end of the episode *Squeal*

Some Things I was disappointed about-

DOTD Rose

The fact that we didn’t find out how Rose and the Doctor were in the alternate universe (Spoilers- Billie Piper was in this episode but didn’t exactly play Rose and it was the actual Time Lord Doctor).

The amount of plot holes, there were certain things where it felt like, “That shouldn’t have happened because if that doesn’t happen, this and this doesn’t.”  The fact Gallifrey got saved there are lots which need to be explained. The 9th and 10th Doctor will still think that they destroyed Gallifrey but people such as The Master it could be questioned if he should still be around. Also in the 10th Doctors last episode, he admitted that the Time Lord’s have changed for the worse, so it could be argued why did the 11th Doctor save Gallifrey when he knows the President and a few others on Gallifrey are practically waiting to take over the universe?

The amount of flirting the Tenth Doctor did, no, just no.

It seemed the plot was over complicated, not sure how to explain this one, but it felt like there wasn’t a plot line, but that’s because there were around 3 different ones-

  • 1- War Doctors (John Hurt’s) plot line, deciding if he should destroy Gallifrey+ The Time War. The other two Doctor’s got brought in because the War Doctor needed to know what he would be like after he destroyed Gallifrey.
  • 2- 11th Doctor’s (Matt Smith’s) plot line, investigating paintings then trying to make an arrangement between humans and Zygons.
  • 3- 10th Doctor’s (David Tennant) Protecting and marrying Queen Elizabeth I against Zygons.

We see the end of the 1st plot line, although that isn’t the one that this episode started off with, it started with the 11th Doctor. There isn’t much suggestion to the hint of the end of the other two.

The Daleks were said to be one of the villains that were going to be in this episode but depending on how you are looking at it they weren’t exactly. The Zygons were the main villain the Daleks were only the villains when the Time War was shown, which we knew about that anyway.

The Tenth Doctor’s last words were the exact ones what he said before he dies- wasn’t disappointed in that, I cried about that

DOTD Doctor who 10thwords

I do recommend this episode, like any other episode, because even if it does have flaws there is something that makes up for it and if you are a Whovian you probably know that even if you do dislike one part of it it doesn’t mean that you will stop watching or loving Doctor Who.

It will be interesting to see where the series is going to go now that the Doctor knows Gallifrey is out there, viewers are left thinking maybe future series will evolve around The Doctor going on a hunt for his home planet. There is some confusion unfortunately if John Hurt’s appearance changes the Time Lord Numbering, meaning 9 is now 10, 10 is now 11, 11 is now 12 and 12 is now 13. However, I think this for the moment is down to viewers personal opinion I know sites such as Google etc (On date 24.11.13) Still has Peter Capaldi down as the 12th Doctor not the 13th.

Apologies-

DOTD sorry

Ok, my last post over a month ago, I said I’d do a Doctor Who post multiple times a week, unfortunately I forgot that as well as this November being the month where I squeal like a kid because of Doctor Who, I also do NaNoWriMo (I’ll hopefully get around to explaining that later but it involves me writing a 50,000 word novel in a month) Also I’ve had to be at rehearsals because I’m in a Panto this year.

Doctor Who Party starts… NOW!

As a big Doctor Who fan the news of the 50th Anniversary Special episode made me seem like someone had told a 5 year old kid that Christmas was going to come early this year AND they were going to get everything they wanted AND vegetables were off the menu for life.

DWday1 excite

Starting now, I’m having my own Well Did You Evah Doctor Who party, till the 23rd of November where the Doctor Who Special, “The Day of the Doctor,” will be aired.  The Day of the Doctor episode will excitingly be an adventure where the 11th Doctor and companion Clara somehow meets the HumanDoctor (Series 4 episode basically it’s the 10th Doctor only he’s human and has been living in a Parallel  universe with Rose, who will also be in this episode- companion he fell in love with), and in between all of that Actor John Hurt (Playing a character) has something to do with what ever is going on.

As there are other people contributing on this blog I have had to be reined in a bit. This was going to be a month long, “Every day I will post something Doctor Who themed,” Sort of deal, but I was reminded we do kind of have a schedule here. So, its an every so often in the next month- few times a week- I will do a post focusing on certain aspects of Doctor Who, be it the monsters, the companions or everything in-between. I have gotten the team to let me have the 11 days before the 23rd to post a Doctor a day, starting from William Hartnell (The First Doctor) To Matt Smith (Present Day Doctor).

DW 12

Do I need to do an introduction?

1963, Doctor who was first aired, history was made. If it wasn’t for that and them deciding to bring the show back in 2005, my family would probably be seeing a less insane me, which would be boring.

The Doctor isn’t human, he’s a Time Lord from Gallifrey, the series first started off as he had been exiled but as the “New Doctor Who,” (This is what fans call the Doctor Who series that started in 2005) it became apparent the reason he couldn’t go back was because of the Time War destroyed Gallifrey (I’ll explain this at a later post). He travels the universe picking up companions who help the Doctor but also help the audience. A human companion helps viewers sometimes see the Doctors adventures through another point of view but are also there to ask questions to simplify the, “Timey-wimey wibbley-wobbley,” Stuff. Each episode The Doctor and his Companion/s travel in the TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimensions in Space), to try simplify that even more it’s a box that travels in time and space. They go to different eras, planets or just stop on Earth where they usually end up facing different monsters… with style.

The Doctor Who series is massive, spanning at least 2 spin off series (Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures) Most people will at least recognise the name or one of the icons from the programme. The programme can bring joy, fear, heartbreak but almost every episode can guarantee the Doctor winning in some form and kids… and me… dying to be a part of the Doctor’s adventures.

If anyone has any specific monster, companion or other thing you want us to review, get in touch via our contact thing or Psychic paper (however, best to use the contact thing apparently my Psychic Paper doesn’t react well to being sonicked by the sonic screwdriver)… of course I’ll be battling with the Daleks and Cybermen

Although, my MacBook seems to be having different idea’s with that battle-

eh

Get ya TV ready!

Next week in America sees the launch of some of Well Did You Evah’s Favourite TV shows

Thumbl-cheer

Monday-

TV Castle

Castle is back! Season six, we get to finally find out whether Kate Beckett is going to accept Richard Castle’s marriage proposal. Along with personal drama, we get to witness murders being solved, with Castle’s witty take on things.

Expect Nathan Fillion, Detective Crime Drama, Twists, Nathan Fillion, Laughs and of course plenty of Nathan Fillion.

Tuesday-

TV NCISNCIS, season 11. Now it’s been no secret the actress that played Ziva David (seasons 3-11) Is leaving at the beginning of the season. So, be prepared for a new arrival. We were left at the end of Season ten with Tony, Ziva and McGee resigning and taking blame for all the charges held against Gibbs. The next scene we heard a gunshot after Gibbs was seen aiming a Sniper Rifle at FBI agent Fornell’s head (it’s not confirmed if Gibbs has shot him) So Season 11 should get off to a good start and clear some answers up.

Expect- Gibbs giving head slaps, personal drama, murder, McGee making no sense as he techno babbles.

Thursday-

Grey’s Anatomy, Yup it’s back. Unfortunately, Cristina is said to be going this season. So Cristina, Owen may TV Grey'snever happen now, In true Grey’s tradition we can expect her to have a good send off. Grey’s left us again (like every season finale on this show) we were left on a cliff hanger. Meredith went into labour in the middle of a storm and a black out, Season 11 we should get to meet the Grey/Shepard family along with the new arrival of Baby Bailey, find out if Torres and Arizona can sort out their relationship out and also (among other things) if the Chief has survived an electric shock.

Expect- Drama, Medical stuff, Blood, Possibly death, to cry, to scream at the screen, possibly explosions, sex, lots and lots of relationship problems.

TV ElementaryElementary- Sherlock in America continues! Now we had a whole week a few months ago dedicated to what this show includes, I’m just going to mention that season 1 finished with the show down between Sherlock and Moriarty (who in this series is female and Irene). Season 1 ended sweetly with Sherlock naming a new breed of wasp after Watson, there was an air of uncertainty if this show was going to come back with a season 2 but I’m glad it is back.

Expect- Jonny Lee Miller, Crime Drama, An Intellectual main character, A kick ass Female Watson.

Other things coming up-

Sunday 22nd September- Downton Abbey, Series 4 (UK)

Sunday 29th September- Once Upon A Time, Season 3

Tuesday 8th October- Supernatural, Season 9

Friday 25th October- Grimm, Season 3

In other news 30/7/13

I have been asked to do this again… I think just because the rest of the Well Did You Evah team are glad I actually paid attention to the news last week.

So, This weeks post will feature, Handcuffs, Bigfoot, Lady Gaga and Jelly fish… Before you think of it, no Big foot hasn’t handcuffed it’s self to Lady Gaga and some how a Jelly fish was involved.

1. Handcuffs

SEX TOYS BONDAGE EQUIPMENT ON SALE AT AN ANN SUMMERS SEX SHOP. H

Lots of people have heard the hype of Fifty Shades of Grey? If you haven’t head out to your local charity shop… or maybe not, first think on how dirty minded you are. If you shy away or look in disgust just someone mentioning sex, then stay away. Some time in the past year, possibly a bit longer than that, the Fifty Shades Trilogy came onto bookshops highlighting the world of BDSM- which to be honest has been around a while- and bringing controversy. Taking lessons from the Big Quiz of 2012 we at Well Did You Evah call these BDSM, pantie dropping books, Kinky Fuckery. Apparently, we can thank these books for helping us out of the recession. Fifty Shades

Although Fifty Shades has got to the point of being possibly one of the most popular books in charity shops, and there is the possibility that these other kinky fuckery books are too graphic or something to be on proper bookshelves.  The UK are still keeping up with Kinky practices in the bedroom.

The past 3 years the fire brigade, in London, have been called out to 79 incidents where couples have used handcuffs and lost the key. Now I have two theories on this. 1, they were just so in the moment they lost the key. Or 2, They were secretly hoping a hot fireman/men (more the better) would join in.

What happened to the days where handcuffs came with a spare key?

But the Fire service have also admitted to other strange situations which they have been called out to, one being some man trapped his penis in a toaster… now I’m not sure if I want to know or not.

For the top ten- I’ll admit some of these I wouldn’t class as that bad- http://metro.co.uk/2013/07/29/top-ten-weirdest-objects-london-fire-brigade-has-had-to-free-people-from-3902591/

2. Bigfoot

Now, does he- or you never know she- exist? There has been another apparent sighting in Canada. From this video that has made it into a UK newspaper, the figure walking could easily be a tall person. But I guess it depends how much you want it to be Sasquatch.

On Youtube you can find loads of videos of Sasquatch, so by this rate, if Big Foot does exist, he’s either reproduced and has children all over the world or has access to a private jet. Considering his existence is questioned, he’s doing a pretty good job by confusing the human race. This video was posted on the 24th of July so if your on the watch for Bigfoot, get your passport and make travel arrangements for Canada! As for me I’m going back on the hunt for Narnia.

3. Lady Gaga

This Super Famous Popstar, responsible for creating songs such as Bad Romance and Poker Face and known for her striking dress sense. Has announced some news that I’m sure her devout fans will be (or will have been) sending her, “Get Well Soon Mother Monster,” cards.

Although she has hidden the news, Lady Gaga was a performance away from a hip replacement. Now I have never been personally to a Lady Gaga gig, but I see from everything she does she puts 100% into her work, so honestly I do want to give her a hug and wish her well. After 6 months she believes she is recovered, although it is thought she would have needed a year, if her injury had gotten worse and she needed a full hip replacement, which would disrupt her tour dates

Lady Gaga again, is showing the world is not only she is she an individual, that people can look up to, but with her own strength, she can over come her illnesses to be there for fans.

4. Jelly Fish

It’s been reported that the UK has seen a rise in Jellyfish on it’s coast. They said it’s down to the warm weather… yes around 7 days of warm weather new animals start flocking to the UK… Does this mean if the UK can keep up 14 days of warm weather we could end up growing our own banana’s in our back gardens?

News2 Banana

I doubt the Jellyfish are going to stay here long once they figure out this rain we are having is a permanent thing.

Another theory why the Jellyfish are coming to the UK is that Ponyo (Studio Ghibli) is out there looking for Sōsuke, that also explains the storms and flooding too.

News 2 PonyoNow if you are in the UK and decide to dare going to the beach with this weather it is advised, not to follow the Friends Episode where Monica gets stung by a Jellyfish and Chandler pees on her to stop the pain, according to some big scientist dude this act is a myth and is just unhygienic, plus think what this will look like to other British folk on the beach… It is funny on the Friends episode though.

That’s it for this week… lets see if I’m back to do this next week…

The Investigative Vampire

The current vampire trend, throws more of a romantic side to vampires. However, considering these vampires are often immortal, they probably need to do something with their time. Guess what, a vampires routine isn’t just wake up from sleeping in a coffin, go out, drink blood, have sex and then go back to bed- Trying extremely hard not to go down the route of going into what the Twilight plot line is about, because I have a feeling if I do this too much, I will have a bunch of screaming fan girls hunting me down. Although if they bring pitch forks and torches, I will be impressed. Don’t get me wrong, I think the Twilight books are pretty good, I just don’t understand why it has turned human girls bloodthirsty.

There are two series that show an investigative side to the vampire race (ok there are probably more, pretty sure Mona the Vampire is another one)

51XF5Q48P5L._SL500_AA300_

Bloodties is a programme based on Tanya Huff’s Blood Book series, which follows Private Investigator Vicky Nelson, who stumbles into the world of the supernatural, while investigating a murder. Enter *fan girl scream* Henry Fitzroy. The swoon worthy vampire, who also happens to be Henry VIII’s bastard son… Good looks, awesome personality, Romance writer/graphic novelist* royal lineage AND he’s a vampire. Marry me!

*He’s a romance writer in the books, graphic novelist in the TV Series

Henry, soon tags along with Vicky helping her solve the murder discovering it might have something to do with the supernatural. The murder victim was drained of his blood, the woman- Coreen, who becomes soon becomes a main character in the TV series-  who hired Vicky believes it was a vampire.

blood ties

It starts to get awkward talking about the plot line as the TV series and the Book Series have differences. I put it down to the books been that descriptive and in depth that the TV series couldn’t fit all of it in. But, both seem to get across that Vicki is this kick ass female, who even despite deteriorating eye sight- Retinitis pigmentosa, a condition where at the start of the series she is slowly starting to loose her night vision. The characters tend to remind her of their worry that with her condition she could get herself hurt but Vicki goes about fighting to finish her work. YEAH! US FEMALES CAN STILL KICK SUPERNATURAL ASS EVEN WITH POOR EYE SIGHT! The pairing of Vicki and Henry go together well, these vampires can’t go out in sunlight. Henry can work night, Vicki can work day. And meet together sometime in between. Although I have mentioned Vicki’s personality, she does go out at night too.

One thing what I love Tanya Huff for, is that she has given us a vampire who is actually comfortable with who he is- Someone please give Tanya Huff a hug- Henry doesn’t kill his victims and also only drinks from willing participants, usually when having sex… Sexy time with Henry Fitzroy :3

Henry’s blood drinking means Bambi survives, we have a good vampire and there is less crying in the corner thinking, “Oh God I’ll kill you… But I need blood,” So yes we lose that whole internal argument. The vampires in the Blood Books are territorial, so there isn’t much room for a plot of, “You attacked/are trying to hunt my human! You must die!”… That sort of sounded cavemanish… Vampires tend to stay away from other vampires, or else mass conflict will start out- unfortunately this fact becomes more important near the end of the series…

These books were first published in the 1990’s so, maybe majority of vampires have come down with a severe case of low self esteem and depression as soon as the century turned. Henry if you are out there, please do not have changed! But yes these books are older than Twilight and all those other new vampire books.

I recommend reading the books. Honestly, I couldn’t put them down. Or at least watching the TV series although unfortunately, it wasn’t renewed after it’s first season… I’m going to go cry now.

Blood Ties Promo

Moonlight

images

This is a TV series, like Bloodties it only survived one season. At Well Did you Evah, this is more Natarii’s favourite- I take the side of Bloodties. I found it a bit monotone.

MoonlightCast2

The Series focuses on vampire Mick St. John, who is also a Private Investigator, as he bumps into journalist Beth Turner, while investigating a crime where a lady was drained of blood. It is soon revealed that because of Mick’s ex wife, he and Beth actually have a past together- before anyone jumps to this conclusion, Beth was a Kid at the time and NO it isn’t that type of programme. Mick is a gentleman. The backstory connecting the two characters gives the plot line an interesting twist. Blood drinking wise, these vampires keep a fridge of blood in their, in most occasions, ultra expensive and modernly decorated apartments. Another, interesting thing about these vampires… they sleep in freezers. Oh come on it’s not that strange, how many times have you wanted to do that in the middle of summer?

Character Beth Turner is another strong female, willing to face anything, including death. Proving again, in a female plus vampire story, a woman won’t just fall for the seductive charm and good looks of a vampire.

Unlike Bloodties, this programme this one more focuses on the life of Mick St John and crimes committed by vampires. It carries this on well, with an impressive plot line that doesn’t stray from the fact that in the centre of this programme is Mick and Beth. You aren’t overloaded with characters, and questioning wait, “Where did he come from?”

IT’S VAMPIRE WEEK!

Ok, it isn’t an official holiday so put way your fangs and dramatic black cape… if you really want to. If that sort of thing is normal for you then, keep doing what you are doing. For the next week, we at Well Did You Evah will be writing about something Vampire Themed  every day for a week to celebrate the anniversary of Bram Stoker’s Dracula being Published 27th of May 1897.

bram-stoker-dracula-1
To you modern day 21st century people, yes there were vampires before Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight- Believe it or not The Vampire Diaries (Books by L.J Smith) were out before Twilight. Vampires were first created to be scary and not in the Edward Cullen – (the character played by Robert Pattinson in Twilight) style of, “Oh I need to scare you off because I am no good for you, woe is me. I want your bloood! No I keep away from me Bella!!”- I’ll stop there… The original vampires would have killed Bella on site, or they might of possibly raped her first… depends if you are taking an Anne Rice take to vampires. Well Did You Evah is celebrating a week of blood, and occasionally energy, sucking undead. As it’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula  116th  birthday! -on the 27th of May- (the book, not the author or Dracula, of course if that Dracula is real, he will be much older than that and Bram Stoker will be slightly older than that… or has someone proved if Bram Stoker was a vampire?)

The myth of the Vampire was originally created in Europe, for those who need reminding of geography there is a really unclear map, just below, just to give you an idea of where Europe is. Most of the whole area included in the map, is Europe.

europe Many where killed in belief people were actually Vampires. There are many origin stories, one suggests the idea of vampire comes from a disease what gives traits of looking like the undead. Another one comes from Romania where an high ranking woman believed if she bathed in the blood of babies she would stay young forever.

Moraine_le_vampireEach country has their own myth, but each one relates to beings who carry traits of the undead and prey on the blood of innocent humans, most older stories showed these beings as ruthless, uncaring people who seduced and killed, hence why many were killed. Many believe there are not just one type of Vampire. Psychic vampires are vampires which are believed not to bite and suck blood, but only suck the energy out of people, when coming to horror movies though it’s not really that dramatic, plus there is occasionally confusion with this type of vampire and energy sucking, “Demons,” Such as Succubus’ (Watch Lost Girl if you want to see some awesome Succubus action).

Dracpos

Bram Stoker’s novel, is well known for popularising the, “Vampire Race,” Without this novel, Whitby Abbey wouldn’t be as famous, Romania wouldn’t be a Vampire hunting spot and many more vampire connections wouldn’t have made. We wouldn’t have seen Bela Lugosi perfect Dracula in the 1931 adaption, We wouldn’t have been able to drool (or in Well did you Evah’s ritual- drink Sake) watching Gary Oldman be sexy Dracula in the 1992 film Bram Stoker’s Dracula. And we have to mention Leslie Nielsen’s awesome and hilarious performance in Dracula: Dead and Loving it. There are hundreds of connections to Dracula, from books, to stage to TV/movies.

Although in Classics sense Dracula is the most popular fictional vampire story, it wasn’t the first. Before that there was a story about a Lesbian Vampire-  Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu and  a more, “Dracula,” Like character was introduced in The Vampyre by John Polodori. Even in film Dracula wasn’t the first. The Silent Movie Nosferatu was made 1922 almost a decade before Bela Lugosi crept on our screens as Dracula.

Back to this century-  *Gets in TARDIS*

The past few years young adult fiction have seen a more, “Friendlier,” Vampire arise, though series such as Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga, House of Night By P.C and Kristin Cast, L.J Smith’s The Vampire Diaries (becoming more popular the past few years, originally the books were released in the 1990’s) Ellen Schreiber’s Vampire Kisses series, Richelle Mead’s The Vampire Academy series, (I’ve been told to point out that this includes dhampir’s=Half Vampires). They do introduce the old roots of the bad vampire but occasionally these just pop up to ruin the romantic connection, sounds corny but most of these books are that well written it does make you cry when some thing tragic does happen. Examples in Well Did You Evah’s lives breaking down because of this happening in some of these books= Natarii with Dimitri and Rose (Vampire Academy) and Cat with Alexander and Raven (Vampire Kisses) We will cry every time, but we will still keep re-reading them.

There are some authors who have tried to stick with the more eviler vampires such as Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series (Or True Blood, if that sounds familiar but you only watch the TV series) and Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires, we will only praise Rachel Caine, I have met her twice she is a lovely lady. Dark Ink Chronicles By Elle Jasper, Night Huntress by Jeanine Frost and occasionally Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neil will throw and evil vampire readers ways.

This is the reason The Dracula Book’s birthday has turned into a week! With the recent vampire hype, there are tonnes of TV, movies, books, manga/anime that can be mentioned. Natarii will be sure to do a post celebrating the Vampire Academy Movie, so look out for that, she probably has all the latest gossip and possibly the location on some of the actors/actresses involved.

Each day for the next week, we will be blogging on some thing related to Vampires, be it in book form, TV or film.

But I think I have explained enough goodbye for now…
