Why 2015 will be a spectacular year

2015 is here guys! We’re all probably looking for holidays, short breaks and just nice things to do for the rest of the year to keep us smiling. This year has some great things in store for us Old Hollywood lovers. There’s also some marvellous stuff in store for all film, fashion and art lovers.

To give you a taste we’re going to run down what we’re looking forward to in 2015… Obviously not everything is here yet, some exciting things will pop up later this year.

Film/ Stage

I’m looking forward to Into The Woods. A mash up of fairytales, songs and an all star cast featuring Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Johnny Depp and James Corden the film is sure to be a hit. Anna Kendrick also returns in Pitch Perfect 2 later in the year.

Katharine Hepburn at BFI Southbank are holding a month katharine-hepburn-portrait-001-00n-7xkof this brilliantly talented woman’s work. I was very excited when I found out about this! Films range from The Philadelphia Story and Adam’s Rib to A Woman Rebels and Stage Door with everything in-between. For the full list visit BFI You can also buy tickets here if you really, really need to. I might even see some of you there.

February also brings the Fifty Shades of Grey film which I hear millions of women are super excited for. Based on the book of the same name it features the very wonderful looking Jamie Dornan. With an 18 rating it’s definitely for the adult audiences. Prepare for sexiness, stalking, no romance, kinky fuckery and a very controlling rich man. It’s due out in the UK on 13th February with tickets available now from most cinemas.

Fifty Shades See you now

2015 sees a brilliant treat from director Maria Friedman who is bringing High Society to the London stage. Old Vic is going to be holding this swellegant, elegant party which will be kicking off on 30th April. As of yet no cast as been confirmed, can’t be long to wait though! Tickets are available here

Two films I probably don’t need to mention, but I’ll refresh your memories, are The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man. Both look like sure hits this year.

Big Hero 6 is worth a mention for an animated film…

Exhibitions

V&A host a stunning looking exhibition of the late, great Alexander McQueen’s work and creative brilliance. Savage Beauty runs from 14th March to 19th July and will be well worth a visit as it’s the largest collection looking back at McQueen’s work in Europe.

Fans of Audrey Hepburn will be flocking to National Portrait Gallery this summer to see their Portrait of an Icon exhibition. NPG have a range of photographic portraits spanning Hepburn’s life. These include fashion, film and philanthropic based photos from a range of photographers.

TV

There’s probably to much happening with TV shows to mention here but here’s a few that caught my eye and/or I enjoy watching.

Supernatural is celebrating it’s 10th birthday this year. It doesn’t feel like two minutes since we met demon hunter brothers Sam and Dean Winchester. Here’s to many more years on TV hunting demons, saving us from apocalypses, getting trapped in hell and singing and dancing for us.

Police show Blue Bloods reached it’s 100th show on 9th January. No small feat with the way shows get cut and cancelled these days. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic also celebrates it’s 100th episode later this year when season 5 airs.

37871045I’m excited to see Rizzoli & Isles return for Season 6 and Bitten for Season 2. Both are shows based on books so it’ll be interesting to see which direction they go in. A lot has happened in both series that’s nowhere close to the book so we can’t guess what’s going to happen next.

2015 seems to be Marvel’s year. New comics, Age of Ultron film and the premiere of the tv series Agent Carter. This started in US last week and I’m quite impressed with it. I’m so glad Hayley Atwell as stayed on as Agent Peggy Carter and remains kick ass and a true role model to women.

As shows begin others unfortunately end. This year sees Lost Girl end on season 5. I’ll be sad to see this sexy succubus go but I’m glad we get a proper ending especially after the ending we got on season 4. Bo, Kenzie, Lauren and Dyson we’ll miss you guys!

041114lostgirlnews1

We’ll keep you updated throughout the year on these and many more happenings in the world of movies, tv and exhibitions. Until then enjoy the vast array of spectacular big and indie films out this year and keep your eyes peeled for other great ways to pass the hours.

BFI re-release classic film Gone With The Wind Nationally in Leigh’s centenary year

b70-3219We all know it’s Vivien Leigh’s centenary celebrations this year. I’ve also made clear on the blog that BFI in London were showing a lot of her films, some well known some not so. It’s now been announced that Civil War epic Gone With The Wind will be re-released in cinemas NATIONWIDE! Yes that means that coming to a cinema near you, in the next few weeks, you’ll be able to watch Vivien & Clark portray one of the worlds best known couples.

Gone With The Wind won 10 Academy Awards in 1940 and when you watch it you will easily see why. It was the first colour film to win the Best Picture Academy Award, remember Wizard of Oz was filmed and released in the same year. The film is a romance set in the American Civil War and contains something to keep everyone happy. Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara a feisty Southern Belle who as a difficult love life. Clark Gable who plays Rhett Butler the very handsome suitor who eventually wins Scarlett’s hand. There’s war, break ups and make ups, big life upheavals, sorrowful deaths and dresses made out of curtains.

I’ve just checked and even Cineworld are having a showing (check their site for listings near you.) Locally for me we have Showroom in Sheffield who are having a showing a day 20th December to 24th December. What a perfect way to spend the Christmas week. Obviously some cinemas will include the interlude within the film so don’t worry about having to sit for four hours.

480px-Clark_Gable_and_Vivien_Leigh_-_WindRe-releases from the BFI are big news for old Hollywood lovers because they use the original negatives and make the colours, sound quality and overall viewing experience more vibrant and beautiful than ever before and yet you still feel the originality of the film you love.

I hope you’re all going to try and go! Check for listings with your local cinemas as Gone With The Wind will be shown in over 70 cinemas across the UK. As it’s a romance it’s a great excuse to take your partner with you!

November: Dracula, Classic Horror and Vivien Leigh

I was looking through my Simon’s Cat diary and was quite pleased by what’s coming up over the next month. We thought it was our duty to fill you in on all the goodies that we have to look forward to.

First_trailer_for_Jonathan_Rhys_Meyers__Dracula

Friday 25th October brings Dracula to US screens. This version looks sinfully brilliant with the very pretty Jonathan Rhys Meyers playing Dracula (We drooled and squealed so much when this was announced.) Meyers is a great choice for Dracula and after seeing him a few times in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones I think he’ll pull the sexy supernatural role off very well. The trailer also looks quite amazing. I’m hoping it lives up to expectations as there seems to be a few gothic style TV Shows airing this fall/ autumn. Sleepy Hollow and Witches of East End to name a few. British fans will recognise Katie McGrath who played Morgana in BBC’s Merlin, in Dracula she plays Lucy. The 10 episode show airs in the UK on Sky Living on 31st October. This means we’ll be in for a ghoulishly good Halloween Night.

Where Horror films are concerned there’s a great film event you need to look out for at Independent cinemas. The event creatively titled Gothic: The Dark Artelsa-lanchester-bride-of-frankenstein-c10102251-1_7942 of Film runs fully at BFI London where they are showing a huge selection of old and classic horror films. Think Nosferatu Symphony of Horror, Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee Draculas and The Bride Of Frankenstein and you’re definitely on the right lines. After some checking at my local cinemas (Showroom Sheffield and City Screen York) we’ve found out that they are also showing selected films (YAY!) Obviously they don’t have the full selection but they do have some corkers. This Sunday I’ll be in York to see Nosferatu in all it’s silent glory. Showroom are running Gothic well into December so people of Yorkshire you have no excuse to miss classic horror!

Vivien_Leigh_BFI5th November marks Vivien Leigh’s 100th Birthday. Me and Cat are big lovers of this golden starlet and so are making the effort to make her birthday as big as can be. BFI Southbank are also celebrating by showing her films until January 2014. They’re showing classics like Gone With The Wind and A Streetcar Named Desire along with Waterloo Bridge and The Deep Blue Sea. Keep an eye out because there’s also a few talks taking place at BFI, National Portrait Gallery (with none other than Kendra Bean, Exciting!) and one at V&A Museum on 13th November. I’m very much looking forward to all these. Those who are free on Saturday 16th or Monday 18th November can also buy tickets to have a sneak peek in the V&A archives which now contain some of Ms. Leigh’s clothing and personal affects. What a perfect month November will be!

For a more detailed list on Vivien Leigh talks and events visit http://www.vivandlarry.com This site is basically all you need for everything Vivien. It’s ran by Kendra Bean. All screening times are available here: BFI Vivien Leigh showtimes

This Man Trilogy created and mastered by Jodi Ellen Malpas

*fans face* Just the fact these books were written by a British Lady and it’s set in London makes things better. It makes me wonder if there are people in Britain like these characters and this is possibly based on them.

Three books in the erotic romance, This Man Trilogy-

1- This Man.

2- Beneath this Man

3- This Man Confessed.

The books tell the story of Interior designer Ava O’Shera and Lord of the Manor, Jesse Ward. Just incase anyone gets the impression, it is set in present day London, Lord of the Manor is a name Ava calls him, but he does own a manor.

Ok, this was my reactions to these three books

Book 1- This Man Oh… My… God. JESSE WARD FREAKING MARRY ME… Must get Lace underwear. Also there was a moment were the two main characters, Jesse and Ava went shopping to Camden (London, UK, Planet Earth, The not so edible Milky Way) and I fell off the sofa laughing recognising that the, “Dance wear,” Shop they had entered was probably one of my favourite shops- Cyberdog. Jesse, Ava, Yes there are people out their who wear that stuff. However, as the book ends my reaction turned more into flooding my local boring town.

Stitch Crying

Things get rocky between Ava and Jesse.

And women are- possibly first time in this book- encouraged to keep their -Lace- panties on. Jodi, leaves readers pining for the second book… and Jesse. Oh and in my case, I wanted to know about the adventures of Kate (Ava’s room mate) and Margo Jr (Believe it or not, this is not the guy Kate is having a relationship with, Margo Jr is the new pink van for Kate’s cake business)

For more on this book

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16140036-this-man

Book 2- Beneath this Man– …

invader zim Mighty need

For this book!

I’m not spoiling anything but this book also put me in the same fan-girling state as the first. Jesse puts himself in a state- Another flood warning, although my town hadn’t recovered from the one the day before- There is a lot of forgiving, in the characters and a lot of heartbreaking in the fictional world Jodi has created and in readers.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16156709-beneath-this-man

Book 3- This Man Confessed–  Was recently released- Now Spoiler, but I think Jodi had a genius moment when she thought up, handcuffs should be involved at a certain event… For those who haven’t read this before, handcuffs in sex is sort of done before obvious so it’s not in that situation.

Ava’s mother- “Get those handcuffs off my daughter… Jesse Ward, you try the patience of a Saint! Where’s the key?”

Jesse- “Somewhere you’ll never want to venture, Elizabeth.”

Also, the, “Bad person.” In this series, was someone who had me questioning. And again my town got flooded towards the end of this book… On the other hand, I read some of this book before an interview and got the job, so, for me it’s a lucky book.

…. This man1

Three books later, Fifty Shades of Grey, get out of the top selling Kinky Fuckery (Erotica to you normal people) section

Right I’m trying to decide if I’m going to swear or not. From this book you learn, swearing in front of the Amazing Jesse Ward can have angry and kinky repercussions.

I’ll admit this series is probably not for everyone, Jesse is very controlling and possessive, but in the end I don’t think a romance story can really cover the wants on everyone. It’s not like there isn’t any fight in these books, yes Jesse is possessive of Ava, but she does fight back, she’s not a submissive shy thing. And let’s be honest this is fiction, as much as some people would like, Jesse or someone like him probably will not exist…

The books have their perks and shows over and over and over and over and over…. again why it needs to belong in the erotica section, although I think take all the sex out, you could just put Jesse and his manor in the erotica section and I’d stillThis man 2 buy it. For some readers, it doesn’t just include sex. No, it’s not sex. Jesse, has labels for these different kinds of sexual adventures. Jesse, I have to swear now. There is-

  • Retribution f*ck
  • Apology f*ck
  • Making friends f*ck
  • Reminder f*ck
  • Sense F*ck
  • Truth F*ck
  • Sleepy Sex
  • Celebration Sex

Now, there could be more, there probably is. I just don’t go writing down the different types of sex that happen in these books, if I did the people I live with would be more than worried.

Yeah… we all need a Jesse. Also with Jesse you also get, a countdown, a manor, money, cars, an apartment, Someone who can transport you to, “Central Jesse- Cloud Nine,” super pantie dropping sexiness, a guy with a secretive dark past, and like I’ve said a super possessive guy who will tear up a designer £500 dress in front of you. Oh and with Jesse you also get a continuous ring tone change for your mobile phone!

To go with Jesse, we have Ava, the woman who tells the story- yes this is a first person point of view deal. Ava, is a feisty, well established woman, both career wise and personality. It is though her career as an interior designer she gets to meet Jesse and that is the equation, once you have added an out of this world writer, that gives you, This Man.

I’ve said in the Title that this book was, “Mastered,” By British Author Jodi Ellen Malpas, That’s because I believe this trilogy differs from the others of it’s kind. There are a lot of, ‘woman get’s attracted to rich business man,’ Erotica out there. But it’s not just how Jesse has become a millionaire that differs from the rest- this aspect revolves around the manor and Jesse’s past. Each book provides an emotional roller coaster. There are occasions where your heart may breakDoctor cry

Ok, at some points it does seem like Ava and Jesse are constantly arguing at each other or having sex, sometimes both, but there is something in the books that made me not want to put them down.

So, if you’re into Alpha-male, erotic romances, give at least the first one ago

In other news 30/7/13

I have been asked to do this again… I think just because the rest of the Well Did You Evah team are glad I actually paid attention to the news last week.

So, This weeks post will feature, Handcuffs, Bigfoot, Lady Gaga and Jelly fish… Before you think of it, no Big foot hasn’t handcuffed it’s self to Lady Gaga and some how a Jelly fish was involved.

1. Handcuffs

SEX TOYS BONDAGE EQUIPMENT ON SALE AT AN ANN SUMMERS SEX SHOP. H

Lots of people have heard the hype of Fifty Shades of Grey? If you haven’t head out to your local charity shop… or maybe not, first think on how dirty minded you are. If you shy away or look in disgust just someone mentioning sex, then stay away. Some time in the past year, possibly a bit longer than that, the Fifty Shades Trilogy came onto bookshops highlighting the world of BDSM- which to be honest has been around a while- and bringing controversy. Taking lessons from the Big Quiz of 2012 we at Well Did You Evah call these BDSM, pantie dropping books, Kinky Fuckery. Apparently, we can thank these books for helping us out of the recession. Fifty Shades

Although Fifty Shades has got to the point of being possibly one of the most popular books in charity shops, and there is the possibility that these other kinky fuckery books are too graphic or something to be on proper bookshelves.  The UK are still keeping up with Kinky practices in the bedroom.

The past 3 years the fire brigade, in London, have been called out to 79 incidents where couples have used handcuffs and lost the key. Now I have two theories on this. 1, they were just so in the moment they lost the key. Or 2, They were secretly hoping a hot fireman/men (more the better) would join in.

What happened to the days where handcuffs came with a spare key?

But the Fire service have also admitted to other strange situations which they have been called out to, one being some man trapped his penis in a toaster… now I’m not sure if I want to know or not.

For the top ten- I’ll admit some of these I wouldn’t class as that bad- http://metro.co.uk/2013/07/29/top-ten-weirdest-objects-london-fire-brigade-has-had-to-free-people-from-3902591/

2. Bigfoot

Now, does he- or you never know she- exist? There has been another apparent sighting in Canada. From this video that has made it into a UK newspaper, the figure walking could easily be a tall person. But I guess it depends how much you want it to be Sasquatch.

On Youtube you can find loads of videos of Sasquatch, so by this rate, if Big Foot does exist, he’s either reproduced and has children all over the world or has access to a private jet. Considering his existence is questioned, he’s doing a pretty good job by confusing the human race. This video was posted on the 24th of July so if your on the watch for Bigfoot, get your passport and make travel arrangements for Canada! As for me I’m going back on the hunt for Narnia.

3. Lady Gaga

This Super Famous Popstar, responsible for creating songs such as Bad Romance and Poker Face and known for her striking dress sense. Has announced some news that I’m sure her devout fans will be (or will have been) sending her, “Get Well Soon Mother Monster,” cards.

Although she has hidden the news, Lady Gaga was a performance away from a hip replacement. Now I have never been personally to a Lady Gaga gig, but I see from everything she does she puts 100% into her work, so honestly I do want to give her a hug and wish her well. After 6 months she believes she is recovered, although it is thought she would have needed a year, if her injury had gotten worse and she needed a full hip replacement, which would disrupt her tour dates

Lady Gaga again, is showing the world is not only she is she an individual, that people can look up to, but with her own strength, she can over come her illnesses to be there for fans.

Full Story- http://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/jul/30/lady-gaga-hip-replacement-scare

4. Jelly Fish

It’s been reported that the UK has seen a rise in Jellyfish on it’s coast. They said it’s down to the warm weather… yes around 7 days of warm weather new animals start flocking to the UK… Does this mean if the UK can keep up 14 days of warm weather we could end up growing our own banana’s in our back gardens?

News2 Banana

I doubt the Jellyfish are going to stay here long once they figure out this rain we are having is a permanent thing.

Another theory why the Jellyfish are coming to the UK is that Ponyo (Studio Ghibli) is out there looking for Sōsuke, that also explains the storms and flooding too.

News 2 PonyoNow if you are in the UK and decide to dare going to the beach with this weather it is advised, not to follow the Friends Episode where Monica gets stung by a Jellyfish and Chandler pees on her to stop the pain, according to some big scientist dude this act is a myth and is just unhygienic, plus think what this will look like to other British folk on the beach… It is funny on the Friends episode though.

That’s it for this week… lets see if I’m back to do this next week…

Holmes Wars: Sherlock vs Elementary

This is a joint Fight  article by Natalie and Cat.

Cat is writing in red

So Sherlock Holmes in the 21st century is pretty uber cool. I mean look at how popular BBC’s Sherlock and the US Elementary have become! These shows wouldn’t have worked too well back in the 60’s or 70’s… Sherlock in bell bottom trousers anyone? In the Wood household we watch both Sherlock and Elementary. The major issue comes when asked which we prefer. I has a Jonny Lee Miller fan like Elementary more than Sherlock. Cat swears by Sherlock. I will not put the awesome picture of Benedict Cumberbatch here, as Natalie is writing this too… Continue reading

Pride 2013. What’s Pride about?

Well Did You Evah couldn’t get down to London for the event at the weekend, but things like sexuality have a massive effect on all aspects in society. This isn’t a review on London Pride, I’m sure, from what I’ve seen at other Pride events, it was awesome. This blog entry is more to do with the Pride event itself, explaining what it supports.  Pride rainbowflag

So, hands up. Who has seen the negativity towards same sex marriage or even same sex couples? Homosexual couples since, prehistoric times possibly have had negativity towards each other. Yeah the human race has apparently evolved to the state it is now, but there are still people out there who can’t evolve their thought processes to accept the fact that some men and women are attracted to the opposite sex.

Pride events hold an open mind, party sort of thing. Bringing people together of all sexualities LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Transgender) Pride tries to stamp out discrimination, the title itself suggest that these people are/should be proud of who they are, proud of the fact they are different in a society which is often bullied for anyone who tries to be different.

Hetrosexuals- those attracted to the opposite sex, Homosexuals- lesbians and gay people, those attracted to the same sex, Pride BiBisexuals- Those attracted to both sexes (male and female), really everyone is invited, even the lesser known sexual orientations such as Asexuals- Those who are not sexually attracted to any gender, this is not like Celibacy, Asexuals don’t choose not to be interested in sex-

Pride 178px-Asexual_flag

think such characters as BBC Sherlock and Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory, who show no interest in sex, this is not to say they cannot have a relationship, most asexuals identify themselves as been something like hetroromantic= romantically (willing to date) attracted to opposite sex,Biromantic or homoromantic

.

Because the thing is, I’m not entirely sure why people discriminate against these people. I’ve met people of all orientations I have listed above and they are all brilliant people, they are happy, most times, with their lives, so why do people want to take that away from them? Most cases, they didn’t chose to be gay or whatever they are. If your hetrosexual, imagine whatever you feel when on a date with the opposite sex, for any orientation, it’s a similar thing only you might be faced getting those feelings, and feeling more comfortable, with someone of the same sex.

I accept that there are arguments against these different sexualities, some people might not understand how these relationships could work, or some people take the side of, “The Word of God.” But in the end, as much as people in society Bi Heterosexual_flagmay wish they could, you can’t change the way people feel, what turns them on, or who they are attracted too. Pride is also an educational event, willing to educate those who are willing to learn  or open their minds to the fact people aren’t the straight black and white. Most cases as well you can walk away from a Pride event with hand full of sweeties.

Pride promotes awareness for homosexuals and Bisexuals fighting against diseases, such as HIV and most importantly is seen as a social event. People get to meet with others have a good time, which is probably the most important thing about Pride. Yay fun! Pride often has a festival atmosphere, throwing in a parade and multiple stages of singers and performers allowing people to chat over drinks and food oh and face painting.

I’m not suggesting start planning to go to your nearest Pride event, If you do plan to go to the next Sheffield (South Yorkshire UK) Pride, be warned for the cues to the toilets, last year they were prettyyy long. If your not willing to have an open mind, I wouldn’t suggest it. If you are wanting to learn more, I may hint at it, I doubt anyone is going to come up with a device that can brainwash those of different sexualities to become the drones that need everything to conform to standards of the human race. So, people should be getting used to Pride promoting the idea that different sexual orientations are going no where!

Gluten Free London

I went to London yesterday and found myself shopping. Obviously shopping is a big thing when you’re on Oxford Street, Regent St and Covent Garden but I shopped for something that we use everyday… Food.
