It’s pretty sad/ devastating/ soul destroying news for us fans but I’m afraid we’ll have to band together and support each other until the DVD is released over here. I haven’t found any news yet on a release date but hopefully it shouldn’t be to long to wait.
Cover Amazon.com have for pre-order of Vampire Academy DVD
Looking at the cinematic release of Vampire Academy in other countries really does show that it hasn’t lived up to expectations financially. Maybe it could have done better with a stronger advertising campaign and merchandise. I mean when Twilight started their ad campaign I think this house had every poster and piece of merchandise going. I’m 23 and I’d honestly buy anything Vampire Academy.
This probably doesn’t bode well for the optioning of Frostbite but if the money’s there to make it then anything can happen.
Fingers crossed Vampire Academy fans for future luck in the franchise! Until the DVD release we’ll just have to read a bit more
Please note I stress the word rumoured. As of 11pm UK time I have been unable to find any confirmation OR denial of this dreadful news. I’ve followed up some leads and here’s what I’ve found.
Vampire Academy is no longer on the Cineworld website but I did find it on the Vue website. Odeon also say they have it set for 23rd April.
The film still appears on eOne’s UK Site but there is no information on UK release dates, there’s basically no information for us.
The UK release date has also vanished from the extensive list of dates on IMDB. Ireland is still there.
The film didn’t live up to expectations and was not released in Brazil. Australia only had a run of 20 days. This info is from Vampire Academy (Film) This could be a major reason for cancellation here.
The release date for the DVD in the US has been announced and that’s on 20th May. That obviously has nothing to do with the cancellation of the UK release but it’s something to keep in mind for the DVD release over here.
Remember to keep an eye out on social networking sites, as we know the fans are usually the first to know about things like this. This site is a great source of information: Vampire Academy Movie UK Facebook So is Tumblr and Twitter, so keep Vampire Academy tagged.
If Vampire Academy is cancelled over here then we’ll just have to stay brave and keep flicking through our Vampire Academy Movie Companions until the DVD is released.
As soon as we have more information or confirmations we’ll let you all know.
UPDATE4/4/14 Cineworld tweeted me back earlier with this:
Vue and Odeon are still saying Vampire Academy WILL STILL be shown. So far looks like it’s just Cineworld who have it cancelled. I suppose only time will tell.
UPDATE 9/4/14: When I checked Vue this morning The Vampire Academy link says the film is now due to be released 4/7/14 but when you click on the link the Vampire Academy page has been removed. Odeon have also removed the link to the film. A bad omen maybe? I’ve contacted Vue and will let you know their answer.
